What Drives Your Engine?

“I don’t know how you can deal with all of that open time in your day. I think I’d go a little crazy,” a friend said.

Well, I have my moments – but my personality/soul is built around having plenty of space to think, write, observe, absorb and integrate experiences. I also need regular rest/quiet to be a healthy intuitive. I’ve learned to accept what drives this engine — and no matter the environment, I’ll always need these particular ingredients for my energy.

What causes pain is not accepting our beautiful, unique essence — and sure, we’re constantly changing — but “knowing thyself” makes the road so much easier. If you enjoy a day filled with activity, leading a team, raising a child — awesome. Your life doesn’t have to be mine. I spent many years trying to figure out how to fit here, while rejecting with equal fervor how others said I should be. It takes courage to say, “This is what I need to be a happy, contented person” and carry through with your vision while not expecting others to fulfill it for you.
