It’s okay to be irritated. It doesn’t make you a bad person.

It’s okay to not get what you want. It’s even better when you do.

Amazing, in fact.

Everything changes when we realize that Life/God/dess/Whomever is on our side.

That Life pushes us forward, in grace and the eternal new.

Or the new eternal — with the ancient women, bearded sages and little ones showing us the way.

The signs? Everywhere.

Hearts traced in potatoes, the whispering dreams, the moments of peace that still your breath.

The carrying wind, the scratched pencil marks, the prayers spoken so earnestly.

The fire that emerges when we allow the space for it.

Ready?

Let’s go.

Roar, baby. Roar.

Neck muscles like ropes.

Red hair flowing down well past her shoulders.

Body tight, with the carriage of a dancer.

I mentioned that I didn’t feel comfortable doing a headstand since I was on my period.

“Oh, I’m so old, I wouldn’t know anything about that,” she joked.

Old? I thought. She couldn’t have been past 55. Here she was, with her enviable body teaching a yoga class while believing she was old.

Obviously in jest. But I could tell by the way she emphasized “old” that she meant it. Felt it. As if menopause wiped out every remembrance of youth.

Her statement added one more to the plethora I’ve heard from women in their 50s on up. And since I am less than a decade from that decade, I pay attention.

What these women don’t realize is that I listen.

They are the matriarchy for me. More »

or…what’s a poet like me doing in an intuitive place like this?

As a Gemini, I have been blessed with an embarrassment of creative riches. Writing, speaking, painting, photography. The arts come easily for me.

But like any Gemini, the matter is really whether I choose to use them or not.

Painting and photography are especially easy and fun because I don’t think about it. I just pick up the camera or brush and begin. And when people enjoy the end result, I’m pleasantly surprised and thrilled — but don’t really put effort into gaining approval.
