I have a morning spot where my 1st draft is being shaped. There’s about 50,000 words and I’m aiming for 100,000, half of which I’m sure will be chopped but that’s just the nature of writing.
Sometimes I sit in the garden or write before bed but I’ve found that as a Gemini, early mornings are when I thrive and writing comes the easiest. I never force myself to write and it’s taken over two years to start this new work. Yes, it was frustrating to wait and I worried that I’d never have another book. Good thing the Muse doesn’t have an expiration date.
Don’t believe writers who say you have to write a chapter a day. If it works for them, great. If it makes you feel bad, then it’s a chore and your writing will suck. Write only when you feel like it and don’t let your mortality frighten you. Make it a practice to be inspired by life. Notice conversations, soak up beauty, listen/read/watch great art, rather than chaining up your gifts in expectations that it will pay the bills or make you famous. That’s what it is — a gift — and you are the channel when it’s time to create.
